Katlin's a Teenager Now

Katlin turned 13 this month and for her party she wanted a big pickin party.  So Dan rented the gym at Washington School and invited about 40 of her closest friends. Everyone brought an item and we had a coop supper.  Sloopy Joe's, potatoe salad, Macaronni salad, Snicker salad, deviled eggs, baked beans, chips and lots of deserts.   Cookies from Jeanine and grandma, cupcakes, a confetti layer cake and the hit of the party an Ugly cake.  I tried most of them and they were all good. We actually forgot to sing to her so the picute above is her blowing out her candles Sunday with the remaining cake.
Here is part of the circle of players. They kind of came and went.  Play a while and rest a while or eat a while.

The younger kids and Scottie were jaming in the hall for a while.  Maybe they couldn't keep up with the more mature players.
This is some of the audiance members.
This is a clock Katlin got that Jeanine had made.  It is really neat.
This is a T-shirt I got her.  She got tickled about the strangs.  She plays with another group called Rusty Strangz.  She got a lot of really nice things and a pocket full of money besides. I think she had a really good birthday.  It lasted for a week.  She had been on Spring break from school and had been at the other Grandpa and Grandma's for a couple of days.  Had a friend from school stay on the "farm" with her.  The weather was pretty good all week.

Kyann's Third Birthday

Do you believe it. Kyann is now three years old. Where has the time gone? I went up early to avoid bad weather (which never materialized) and help Cindy get ready for the parties. Kyann and I had fun playing. She is still playing on her slide I got her last year for her birthday. However she uses it differently now. We sent Snoopy and Woodstock down the slide several times. Once Donald got in on the action too. She has a vivid imagination.

She was really good for me and only got fussy at nap time. We played all over the house. (Oh those stairs and my knees)

She helped me make her cakes by licking the beaters for me. She called the cupcakes muffins. Muffins done yet? Muffins got to cool. I'm thinking she had heard that a time or two.

She didn't get it all in her mouth.

Here she is when we were singing Happy birthday to her. She blew her own candles out this year and seamed to have a good time at her party.

One of the things I got for her was a Mickey Mouse camper. She has been in our camper and she is still in love with Mickey and gang. Dan had gotten her some finger puppets and she would open the camper door and put them all (6) in side in a certain order and them open the camper and take them out and start again. Over and over.

Here she is with a couple of them on.

Here is is all dressed up for her first party with the Kofrons. Doesn't look like a baby anymore does she? Note her lady bug on her dress. The theme this year was a lady bug picnic.

Cindy came up with the theme and had a red table clothe. I cut some black dots out of felt. The table looked really cute with the plates cups and napkins all ladybugs. We had to have two cakes for two parties. In order to tell them apart they had different colored eyes. I think we had the green eyed one. I had also found the stuffed ladybug for her at Kohl's. We really had a theme going. One of the puppets Dan got for her was a lady bug and one of the shirts I got had lady bugs on it. Never do anything half way do we?

The cakes were really good. No one in our family likes black licorice but they now have chocolate licorice. Go figure. Tasted pretty good but was kind of hard to associate chocolate with the texture.

Baby Dovico's Shower

Kim, Amber and Amanda F gave a baby shower for Sierra and Baby Dovico. Amanda C. made the cake and it was adorable! We met at La Hacienda for supper and played a couple of games.

Kim had spent a lot of time decorating and it looked very nice. I think they had about 40 people.

Lacey seamed to have a really good time. Watch out Tina she is a beauty!

Sierra was very grateful for all her gifts and she got some really nice stuff.

Kyann Feburary 2011

I went to see Cindy, Shane and Kyann for a couple of days. Shane had a job interview and I got to babysit. I have tried several times to download some video of Kyann. She did so many cute things. But for some reason I can not get it to work so will just add a couple of pictures and tell you about how special she is. She can tap dance now with ruby red slippers (thanks Barbie). She can sing the entire alphabet. She has the most vivid imagination ever!! Knows numbers to 13. Knows all the sounds the letters make. Knows all the colors. Wow! She is growing up fast.

We played so many different things and had a good time. I was there on those really cold days when it barely got to 0 for a high. When I went to leave to come home. Shane said they would help me carry my stuff out but I said it was too cold I could get it but he insisted and gave Kyann my purse to carry while he got a couple of bags and I got the last one. Kyann was first in line and when I opened the garage door for her to go out she said "Holy cow it's cold!" She didn't go out either. She really is a smart cookie.

Looking forward to going back for her third birthday next month. Man where have those 3 years gone? And look at all that hair. That is definately a Kofron thing. My babies were bald!

Remnants of the Big Storm of 2011

It was a storm we will never forget. Oh that wind!!. Wouldn't you know it was my night to work. That's life. Had maintenance come pick me up and no farther than I live it was a harrowing ride. Dan plowed my drive and cleaned my sidewalks. But he forgot to scoop the inside of my garage. When I went to get my car out today there was a 2 foot drift inside my garage next to my car. That wind really was powerful. I was too lazy to go back inside and get my camera. You can see it even covered my mower.

Put our gingerbread house out for the birds and or squirrels. Hope they enjoy it. Come quickly spring!

Jimmy's 90

Jimmy Lindsey is one of the nicest people you would ever want to meet. He has forgotten more in music than I will ever know. He is also so encouraging to people, especially young people. He is very fond of Katlin and was telling her here that she had what it takes to go all the way with her music. We went to La Plata , Mo. for the birthday party. Leaving Fairfield about 9 AM. It was a pot luck and my the food!! Kind of like an Eklund gathering. At 90 you really don't expect a person to have many friends left, but there must have been well over 100 people there. A testamony to the kind of man Jimmy is. They came and went all day..

Here is Katlin playing with the Bluegrass Blondies. She then played several songs on her own. She really likes to preform. And I might say did a fine job.

This group of players (recognise any one?) were in the kitchen area warming up as they said, kind of tight quarters.

This is Jimmy on stage with his daughter Betty.

And with his granddaughter Lindsey. She is in college so they don't get to play together often. It was a nice day. Dawn and I had to drag Scottie and Dan off the stage. Come to think of it Lloyd was up there too.

Snowy MLK Day with Katlin.

What do you do when it is nasty outside? Why you make a pencil of course, and here it is. That is a real pencil laying beside it so you can get an idea of how big it is. Katlin picked out the fabric and did most of the sewing. I had to help her a little. Too funny!
